How the practice runs

Short, and worth reading once. These are the terms every family agrees to at the first session.

Sessions

Sessions run 60 minutes and are usually one to one. That is what you get unless you ask for something else. Where friends or classmates in the same grade would rather be taught together I will put them in one session, but only by arrangement with me — it never happens without your asking.
All teaching is in person in Langley, BC.
Bring the student's own notebook, along with any assignments or reference books they are working from.
A booking is a request until I confirm it by email. Please do not plan around a time before that confirmation arrives.

Before you start

A free thirty-minute consultation is offered to any family who asks for one. There is no charge and no obligation to book afterwards.
It is arranged by email rather than through the booking system: tell me a little about your child and when you are free, and I will reply with a time.
Bring a recent test or a piece of marked work if you have one.

Fees

Per student, per month. Due at the beginning of each month, by cash or e-transfer only. Cards and cheques are not accepted, and there is no registration or assessment fee.

I will tell you the amount before your child's first session, and you are welcome to ask at any time. Figures are not sent by email or shown on this website — fees are settled between us directly, and the website has nothing to do with money at any point.

Prorating

Starting mid-month is fine — that month is prorated to the sessions the student actually gets. The same applies to months containing a school break.

Breaks and holidays

Classes are closed for Spring break and the Christmas break. Fees for those months are prorated to the sessions actually taught, so you are never charged for a week the practice is closed.

Make-up sessions

If your child misses a session I offer a make-up, one a month. Two for students who come twice a week.
A make-up needs 24 hours' notice. Tell me at least a day before the session and it counts towards that month's make-up. Less notice than that and the session counts as taught — the hour was held and nobody else could take it.
Unused make-up sessions do not carry over to the next month.

When you stop

There is no notice period and no cancellation fee. Tell me you are finished and that is that.
Your records are kept for one year after the last session and then deleted automatically. You are emailed a fortnight beforehand, and booking anything keeps them.

Student progress

Parents are welcome to ask how their child is getting on by email, message or phone call, whenever you would like an update — just ask.

No written progress reports are produced, and nothing I observe about a student is recorded on this website. If you ask by email or message, my reply is an ordinary message rather than a record kept here, though a copy will of course remain in your own inbox.

Group size

Groups are capped at three. If a session is full the website will say so, and you are welcome to take another time or ask about one-to-one.
